All About Wine by Sommelier,
Dear Wine Lovers,
This month I would like to talk about a wine that made a great impression at the last wine club event we held at the Royal Oak. With a unanimity vote, this wine was the favourite with every guest!
Corbières Cuvée Réservée La Voulte Gasparets 2012
This organic estate has been run by the same family for six generations, Patrick Reverdy is the current head. Forever in search of authenticity, Patrick, like all great wine growers expresses himself through his wines, he’s a craftsman who listens to nature and lives in harmony with it.
The soil is a mixture of silts, chalk and sand, with a large amount of quartz pebbles; it is unique among the Languedoc-Roussillon region. The pebbles intensify the heat during the day, and keep a good proportion of it during the night, which is beneficial to the 30 to 60 year old vines.
This wine is made with Carignan (50%), Grenache (25%), Mourvèdre (15%) and Syrah (10%). It is intense and structured with balanced aromas and richness, on the palate it is dense, powerful and full bodied with rich and supple tannins. Perfect with warm winter dishes such as stews, pies and casseroles.
This wine is making its debut on our list this month, and I can’t wait for your comments. As Mo has mentioned above it is our wine of the month, and throughout February it is available at the special price of £6.00 for a 125ml glass and £35.00 a bottle. So please try it and give me your feedback. I’m interested to see whether these guys from the wine club were right to vote it their best!
In my opinion this wine is great and does the job in terms of value for money, it also puts sunshine in your glass on those rainy days, and will keep you warm during the chilly days ahead…
